Are We Back?

Hello there. It has been almost exactly a year since we started living in a restricted world. It has, in some ways become a way of life. Most of us yearn for a return to being able to step foot in a store or restaurant without feeling like we have to hold our breath. It would appear we are moving in exactly that direction. More and more people are getting vaccinated. This feels like a good thing. And it is. It is going to allow us to feel a little safer, though not bulletproof. Just safer. The problem is, for some who have become accustomed to isolation, returning to “society” will be very nerve wracking. Anyone else have dreams about realizing you are in public without a mask and panicking in the dream? Just me? Maybe. But I think that being so purposeful in our personal space will make it difficult to be in a place with people again. Or in a place with several people again. This is something to grapple with. We want to go back to our lives, but our lives feel threatening after so much time off from social contact. It is creating some weird, unexpected cognitive dissonance for some people. My recommendation is to take it slow. Let your brain and body adapt to being with people again. Don’t dive into the mosh pit immediately, dip a toe in. Then run away if you need to. Let yourself reacclimate at your own rate. We will get back to feeling comfortable in the company of strangers in public. It will just take time.

As you find yourself feeling more and more comfortable, continue to be respectful of others who are still working on it. Everyone will move at their own rate of speed.

As always, if you are experiencing difficulties please click the “Book and Appointment” button at the top of the page and let’s talk about it.

Thank you for reading & Take Care,
